What
do Big Buddies do?
Big Buddies
work with host families to provide a positive and memorable experience
for our Northern Irish visitors during their visit from late June
to mid-August. By serving as a mentor--spending additional time
with the kids and providing them personalized attention--Big Buddies
develop a special and fun relationship with their younger cohorts.
Big Buddies have the opportunity to spend one-on-one time with
a child or to participate in group activities. Sporting events,
picnics, theme parks, and Project Children-sponsored events are
some of the activities Big Buddies have shared with their kids
in the past.

Who can become a Big Buddy?
Any individual
who has time and attention to share with a young Northern Irish
friend(s) is encouraged to fill out the application form. The
time commitment is only 6 to 10 hours spread out over the entire
6 weeks--meaning you can be as involved as your schedule allows.
Maybe you have time to spend each week with your little buddy,
or maybe you just have time to come to a group event. Either way,
you can build relationships that make a real difference.
How can I become a Big Buddy?
If you are
interested in becoming a buddy, please request an application
form which requests three references. It is straightforward and
will allow us to get an idea of your time availability and interests.
Claire duFief is the Big Buddy co-coordinator and may be reached
through the Project Children office at 202-298-7784 for more information. |
